: A page's type says what the page is for. It decides how the page is drawn, what a reader can do on it, and which of the other settings are worth showing: a media list has a sort order and index files, a share wall has an expiry, and a standard page has neither. Changing the type changes which boxes appear beneath it on the settings. : The type is chosen with the Page Type dropdown on a page's settings. Every type below is available on any wiki page, though a group that is not allowed to hold repositories will not offer Git Repository. ==Standard== : An ordinary wiki page: words, pictures, links, forms, and whatever else the wiki markup offers. This is what a new page is until it is told otherwise, and what most pages stay. ==Page and Feedback== : A standard page with a discussion thread beneath it. Readers who may post in the group can comment on the page without editing it, and the comments live in the group's feed as well, so a conversation about a page is kept beside it rather than in someone's mail. ==Alias Page To== : A page that is not a page but a signpost. Anybody asking for it is taken to the page named in the Alias Page To box. Use it for a name in another language, an old name kept working after a rename, an abbreviation, or a plural. The name may point into another group, written as the page name, an at sign, and the group name, as in Coffee@Recipes. ==Media List== : A page that shows the files kept with it as a list to work through rather than as words with pictures in them. Videos, recordings, documents and images each draw in the way that suits them, and a reader is offered the next one when they finish the one they are on. Its own settings say how the list is sorted, whether a folder without an index file lists what it holds, and which file stands as a folder's index. ==Presentation== : A page drawn as slides. Each top-level heading begins a new slide, and a reader moves through them one at a time rather than scrolling. The same markup as a standard page is used, so a page can be written first and made a presentation afterwards. ==Url Shortener== : A page that turns a long web address into a short one under this site. The address to shorten is typed on the settings, and the shortened address is shown beside it to be copied. The edit mode of this pages shows statistics for the number of people who have viewed the shortened address to go the original address. ==Share Wall== : A page anybody holding its address may write to, for the length of time the Expires setting allows. Use it to collect files or notes from people who have no account here, and set an expiry rather than leaving it open forever. ==Git Repository== : A page that is a git repository. It can be cloned, pulled and pushed to over HTTP with an ordinary git client, and the page itself shows the commits, the tags, and the files, with a README drawn beneath. Its settings say how an issue reported by somebody without an account is handled. ==Front Page== : A page that gathers other news articles pages rather than holding words of its own. It is laid out in one of a few settled shapes, and each place in the shape is filled from a category list of news articles, a list of category names, or a named news article. ==News Article== : A page written as an article: a title, an author, a date, a banner picture with its caption and rights, an abstract, and the categories it is filed under. Articles are what a front page and a category list gather. ==Templates== : A group may also hold template pages (a page whose name begins with template:), and any of them can be chosen from the same dropdown. Choosing one starts the page from that template's contents and settings. The edit mode for a page have a fixed set of text fields and area that can be customized. The read mode of the page shows the template's contents with the customized values filled in. : See [[Wiki_Page_Properties|Wiki Page Properties]] for the settings each type shows, and [[Wiki_Page_Locales|Wiki Page Locales]] for how a page and its translations are kept.
